Farmers advised to use balanced fertilizers

Agri experts in a function here yesterday urged the farmers to use balanced fertilizers in crop fields to boost production of crops to achieve country’s food security.In this context, the balanced use of Murate of Potash (MoP) in paddy field can help the plants to enhance the preventive strength against different diseases side by side with protecting the environment from hazards and other pollution, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a field day-2013 on the usage of balanced fertilizers in paddy filed at Tengarzani area under Sadar upazila in the district.
Belaurshian Potash Company and Agri-Bangla Consultants organized the function under More Yield in Balanced Fertilizer project being implemented by Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Soil Resources Development Institute and Ministry of Agriculture.
District training officer of DAE Zulfiquer Haider addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila agriculture extension officer Zakir Hossain and vice president of Gaibandha Press Club Sarker M Shahiduzzaman were present as the special guests while upazila agriculture officer Sadiqul Islam was the moderator.
With farmer Abdul Jalil in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by sub assistant plant protection officer Abdus Sabur and farmers Abdul Qaiyum and Noni Gopala Saha.
The agri-experts also narrated the latest agro-technologies including AWD, perching, lag method and Guti urea using and judicious use of chemical fertilizers in filed levels elaborately to get desired production and change the socio-economic condition of the growers as well.
The attending farmers expressed their satisfaction over the yield as more than 20 maunds of paddy (BRRI-28) were produced in a bigha of land using balanced fertilizer (MoP) under the project.
A large number of filed level agriculture officers and farmers coming from different unions of the upazila attended the function.
