Farmers’ Bank official’ bail prayer rejected

Dhaka, May 29 – The Senior Judge Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) rejected the bail petition of Mahbubul Haque Chisti (Babul Chisti), former Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Farmers Bank.
Advocate Kazi Nazibullah Hiro conducted the hearing on behalf of Babul Chisti while the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Prosecutor Abul Hossain opposed the bail plea.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the court passed the rejection order after hearing.
On April 10, ACC arrested Babul Chisti from Segunbagicha area of the capital. Earlier, they filed the case with Gulshan Police Station of the city. Before that, on April 3, the ACC, imposed a prohibition on the foreign travel of 17 persons, including Babul Chisti and his wife.
On June 3, 2013, the business activities of bank begun as a fourth generation bank. However, last year, the bank paid loan amounting to Tk 1 thousand 839 crores 79 lakh. However, after inception to December 31, 2016, the bank paid a total of Tk 4 thousand 413 crores 38 lakh.
The accused have been accused of transacting Tk 160 crore through their 25 accounts violating bank rules and misusing their positions as bank officials. – Special Correspondent
