Farmers urged to enhance poultry farming, cattle rearing to earn economical profit

Speakers at a function here Wednesday urged the farmers to enhance poultry farming and cattle rearing to earn economical profit to change their socioeconomic condition gradually. “Farming of chicken, ducks and pigeon and the rearing of cow, goat and sheep can play vital role to meet the growing demand side by side with changing the lots of the farmers through building a poverty and hunger free country”, they said. They made the observations while addressing a function on the problems of poultry farming and livestock rearing and the crises resolving held at the Fulchhari upazila resource center training.  Gana Unnayan Kendra, a local NGO, arranged the function under the project of Resilience Improvement of Vulnerable Extreme Riparian funded by Christian Aid.  Another objective of the function is to help the poor build up their capacity and skills so that they could involve in income generating activities and change their lots gradually through poultry farming and cattle rearing.  District livestock officer (DLO) Abul Kashem addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila livestock officer Dr. Hadiuzzaman was present as the special guest.  With upazila parishad vice chairman Shahidul Islam in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by veterinary surgeon Dr. M A Samad, project manager Protema Chakrobarty and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.  DLO Abul Kashem urged farmers to take existing facilities like free vaccination and other advices from the government officials of the livestock department to make the poultry farming and cattle rearing a success. A total of 50 vaccinators, medicine sellers, president and general secretary of different associations coming from Urya union of the upazila attended the function. -BSS, Gaibandha
