Ferdousi Majumdar to get Syed Mahidul Islam Award today

Renowned dramatist Ferdousi Majumdar to get Syed Mahidul Islam Award today. “Syed Mahidul Islam Shoron Utshab” marking the 14th death anniversary of the theatre activist will start today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city. The two day memorial programme will end tomorrow. The events today will start at 6pm with elaboration on the importance of Syed Mahidul Islam. Then at 7pm Prangonemore’s drama “Ami O Rabindranath” will be staged. At 8.30pm the award “Syed Mahidul Islam Shommanona 2016” will be given to Ferdousi Majumdar. Five married couples of stage will also be awarded. Batikrom, the theatre troupe founded by Mahidul Islam will organise the events. Today also marks the fortieth founding anniversary of the troupe.

Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be present today alongside theatre personalities Golam Kuddus, Akhtaruzzaman, Jhuna Chowdhury, Ataur Rahman and Liaquat Ali Lucky. Tomorrow the events will again start at 6pm. On this day another discussion session will start the events leading up to the presentation of Tagore drama “Durasha”. The drama is a new production by Batikrom. The monodrama has been directed by Saiful Islam and will feature Syeda Nowhsin Islam as the sole performer. The “Manchabandhu Shommanona” for theatre activists will also be conferred today to five theatre organisers.
