Voting starts in high voltage N’ganj City Corpn election

Dhaka – Voting in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election is going on peacefully since early morning Thursday amid much enthusiasm with ‘high’ turnout of female voters.The balloting began at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm without any break.
A total of 4,74931 voters – 2,39,662 men and 2,35,269 women – are expected to exercise their franchise in the polls.
BNP-backed mayoral candidate Advocate Shakhawat Hossain Khan cast his vote at NarayanganjIdealSchool polling centre in Jamtala area in the morning.
Visiting Safura Khatun Pilot Girls’ High School polling centre in Godanile of Siddhirganj upazila, the UNB correspondent found out that the voter turnout, especially of female one, was high and were standing in a long queue to cast their votes.
The NCC polls has been considered vital ahead of the reconstitution of the next Election Commission that will conduct the next parliamentary polls.
People across the country are waiting to see whether the outgoing Election Commission will be able to be to pick their next city mayor through the ballot, no matter whether it is Awami League candidate Dr Salina Hayat Ivy or BNP contender Sakhawat Hossain Khan.
It is the country’s first city election that is being held along the political party line. – UNB
