Ferdousi Priyabhashini passes away

Noted sculptor and freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini passed away in a city hospital on Tuesday noon. She was 71.Ferdousi Priyabhashini, who has been suffering from multiple complications includingkidney ailment, diabetes, high blood pressure, orthopedics and heart disease, and undergoing treatment at Labaid Hospital, breathed her last around 12:45pm, said her son KaruTitash.

She left behind her three sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn the death.On last November, Priyabhashini fell over on the floor in her Gulshan residence and got hurt at her heel. A bone of the heel was replaced after that incident.

Her body will be taken to Central Shaheed Minar where people from all walks of life will pay their last tribute from 11 am to 12 noon on Thursday. Her namaz-e-janaza will be held at Dhaka University’s central mosque. She will be buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard on that day.

Priyabhashini was born on February 19, 1947 in Khulna. She married Ahsanullah Ahmed in 1972.

Government awarded her Independence Day Award in 2010.

Her biography book ‘Nindito Nandan’ was published in Ekushey Book Fair in 2014.

Ferdousi Priyabhashini, who was persecuted by Pakistani occupation army and its local collaborators during the Liberation War, got the ‘freedom fighter’ recognition in 2016.

President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday expressed profound shock at the death of noted sculptor Ferdousi Priyabhashini.

President Hamid said “The contribution of Priyabhashini in the country’s Liberation War will be ever remembered.”

He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of noted sculptor and freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini.

In a condolence message, the Prime Minister recalled with deep respect the outstanding contributions of Priyabhashini to the Liberation War.

“The nation has lost a valiant freedom fighter in her death,” she said, adding her death is also an irreparable loss to the field of sculptor.

Besides, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor , Deputy Speaker Advocate M Fazle Rabbi Mia and Chief Whip ASM Feroz also condoled her death.
