Films on Liberation War screened

A two-day festival featuring live music and films on independence struggles was held at the auditorium of National Art Gallery in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Chalachitram Film Society in association with the academy organised the event as a tribute to the Independence Day, which was observed on March 26.

Patriotic and people’s songs were presented on the opening day on March 29, while two films related to independent movements in two countries were shown on March 30. The films are: Palestinian film The Time That Remains and local film Anil Bagchir Ekdin.

The Time That Remains, written and directed by Elia Suleiman, is a 2009 semi-biographical drama film that examines the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 through to the present day.

It stars Elia Suleiman, Saleh Bakri, Leila Mouammar and Bilal Zidani in key roles.

Anil Bagchir Ekdin, based on Humayun Ahmed’s novel of the same title and directed by Morshedul Islam, is a 2015 film that follows a Hindu man on a perilous journey to his village during the war of 1971.

It stars Aref Syed, Gazi Rakayet, Toufique Emon, Jyotika Jyoti and Farhana Mithu in the lead roles. Singers Dalia Nawshin, Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury Moyna, Nasima Shahin and Mahmudul Hasan also performed at the event.
