Hindustani classical vocal music to be held in Tangail

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre will organise an evening of Hindustani classical vocal music titled “Raga Sangeete Dibos Parikrama” by Saraj – Pancham School in Tangail. The event will be held today.

The group will sing Dhrupad and Tarana in chorus followed by a Khayal by Debanjana Deb. Another khayal will be presented by Joyita Pandit and Joy Basak. Music Teacher, Moumita Biswas, will sing a Khayal and a Thumri.

The programme will be propelled by students and teachers of Saraj Pancham Rag Sangeet Shikkhalaya, a cultural institution established in December 2001 in Tangail. The objective of the institution is to create classical music artistes and to spread classical music in Bangladesh. Junior diploma course of 4 years and senior diploma course of 5 years are held regularly there and at present there are 70 students. Prominent music specialists of the country evaluate the students during their annual examinations. Many students have given excellent performances in National level music competitions. Dr Asit Roy, Chairman of Music Department of Rajshahi University is the Principal, and Mr Montu Biswas is the Director of the institution.
