Final round of Bangabandhu, Bangamata U-17 Football begins

Dhaka – The final round of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Under-17 Gold Cup Football is set to kick off here on Monday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will grace the final match on next Saturday (February 29) as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here.

Eight divisional teams of Rangpur, Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Khulna, Dhaka, Barisal and Rajshahi will play in the final round of both the Bangabandhu and Bangamata Gold Cup Football on knock out basis.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP disclosed it at a press conference at National Sports Council (NSC) premises on Saturday.

The boys’ matches will be held at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamlapur while the girls will be play at Physical Education College in Mohammadpur. Both the final matches will be played at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Apart from the trains and medals,   the trophy and medals. The champion teams of both boys and girls groups will get Tk 2 lac each as prize money while the runners-up teams will get Tk 1 (one) lac each

The first phase of the competition began on September 1 in Tangail. According to  Sports Directorate , some 1(one) lac boys and 12,000 girls participated in the  competition. Girls competition started from districts level while boys compete from Upazila level.

 

Last year, four talented boys got opportunity to train in the Brazil.“This year it may increase, “this year we are trying to send a team as well as few girls. Last year we sent them to Brazil, and this year we are thinking to send them to Argentina or any European countries alongside Brazil,” elaborated the Sports Minister.

Sports minister also shared many issues with the reporters at the press meet. Some Federations have taken program to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and many Federations are little bit worried on budget.

Shooting is one of the prolific disciplines in Bangladesh although recently it is passing very tough moment. “In the last SA games shooting didn’t bring any gold, it hurt me. I informed through media that they have some problem (basically clash between president and general secretary). We are closely monitoring the issue” the minister added.UNB
