Flood situation in Chapainawabganj has marked a slight improvement while the lowlying areas of the district still remain under flood water.
Sources at the local Water Development Board (WDB) said the Padma was flowing three
centimetres below the danger level decreasing from 14 centimetres in the last 24 hours
while the Mahananda was flowing 17 centimetres above the danger mark reducing by
seven centimetres.
The low-lying areas – eight villages including Alatuli, Debinagar, Narayanpur of Sadar
upazila and six unions of Shibganj upazila—are now under water due to onrush of water
from the upstream, WDB sources said.
According to the district administration, more than 11, 172 houses were damaged due to
the flood.
Chapainawabganj deputy commissioner Sarfat Ali said they have distributed Tk2.25
lakh and 130 tonnes of rice and other relief materials among the marooned and displaced
people till Sunday.
Besides, a letter was sent to the ministry of relief and disaster management seeking
allocation of 5 lakh tonnes of rice, Tk10 lakh and 20, 000 pieces of sarees and lungis, said
Sarfat Ali. -UNB, Chapainawabganj
