FMC principal among 2 suspended over corruption

Dhaka-The authorities of Faridpur Medical College (FMC) suspended its Principal Prof Dr ASM Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury and Asstt Prof Gonpoti Biswas Subho on charges of corruption.The Health and Family Welfare Ministry issued a notification in this connection on Tuesday as per the order of the President.
According to the notification, signed by Health and Family Welfare Secretary Syed Monjurul Islam, the authorities concerned of the medical college purchased 166 medical equipments at a higher cost during the 2012-2013 fiscal, causing excessive financial irregularities.
Dr ASM Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury, former director of the project, and Dr Gonpoti Biswas Shubho were suspended as both were found guilty during an investigation, it added.
When contacted, Dr Jahangir Hossain said: “I don’t want to make any comment over the issue as the authorities did not accept my explanations during the investigation.”
On the other hand denying the allegations, Dr Gonpoti said: “I was not in charge when the tender was floated. The allegations against me were intended to tarnish my reputation.”
