Ferry plying on the Maowa-Kewrakandi river route remained suspended for five hours
till Thursday morning due to dense fog.
Shekhar Chandra Roy, assistant manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport
Corporation (BIWTC) at Maowa ghat, said ferry movement on the river route was
stopped around 3:00am am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
The ferry service was later restored at 8:00 am.
Nine ferries with a large number of vehicles on board were forced to anchor at the
midpoint of the Padma River, the manger added.
The suspension of the ferry service caused severe traffic jam on both sides of the river
ghat, causing immense suffering to the passengers. -UNB, Munshiganj
