10 Jamaat-Shibir activists held in Satkhira

Joint forces in an overnight drive arrested 10 activists of Jamaat-Shibir from different

places of the district early Thursday for their involvement in vandalism and subversive

activities.

A team of the joint force, comprising members of police, Rapid Action Battalion and

Border Guard Bangladesh, conducted the drive in different areas of Sadar, Kolaroa,

Kaliganj, Debhata and Shyamnagar upazilas of the district from Wednesday evening to

early Thursday and arrested the 10.

They were arrested for carrying out vandalism and arson attacks during the BNP-led

18-party-enforced nationwide hartals and blockades, said Assistant Superintendent of

Police (Sadar circle) Kazi Moniruzzaman.

The arrestees include Salam, 27, son of Mafiz Uddin of Agordari village of Sadar upazila;

Samiul Islam, 18, son of Aktarul Islam of Waria village, and Zahid Hasan, 16, son of

Shahidul Islam of Patharghata village of Kolaroa upazila; Mosafir Gazi, 23, son of

late Hanif Gazi of Chalitabaria village and Akbar Malik, 55, son of late Sayed Malik of

Moutola village of Kaliganj upazila; Matiur Rahman, 25, son of Abul Hossain of Sushilgati

village, Abul Hossain, 25, son of Monajat Gazi of Sreepur village, Abdullah Al Mamun,

20, son of Shawkat Gazi of Bhatshala village, and Shahabul Islam, 22, son of Akbar Ali

of Datpur village of Debhata upazila, and Hamid Molla, 48, son of late Nowsher Ali of

Badhghata village of Shyamnagar upazila.
