Ferry movement on the Maowa-Kewrakandi river route remained suspended for over
eight hours till Monday morning due to dense fog.
Sirajul Haq, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at
Maowa ghat, said ferry operation on the route was suspended around 11:45pm am due to
poor visibility caused by dense fog.
Later, the ferry service was restored at 8:00 am with the fog vanishing.
Three ferries with several vehicles on board were forced to anchor in the middle of the
Padma River, the manager added.
The suspension of the ferry service caused traffic jam on both sides of the river ghat,
causing immense suffering to the passengers. -UNB
