Forging social movement to resist human rights violation stressed

Speakers have unequivocally called for forging social resistance against all sorts of human rights violation.
They viewed all of us should feel about significance of human rights in the society and work together for its enforcement.The observations came at a daylong conference-2014 of Rajshahi city unit of Bangladesh Human Rights Commission styled “Present Human Rights Situation: Our Responsibility” held here on Friday.Mayor of Rajshahi Mosaddique Hossain Bulbul addressed the inaugural session as chief guest with the unit president Imtiaz Ahmed Shamsul Huda in the chair.Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sarder Tamij Uddin, President of Advocate Bar Association Mozammel Haque, Divisional Coordinator of the unit Abul Hossain and former principal of New Government Degree College Prof Farida Sultana also spoke.Mayor Bulbul viewed that establishing transparency and accountability in every spheres of life including politics and civic-service sector could be the effective means of ensuring human rights to all.He said human rights violation has gradually been increasing in the society due to various reasons like corruption, poverty and illiteracy. But, the human rights situation should be improved collectively and the young generation can play vital role in this regard.Other discussants viewed that the country’s education and healthcare services are gradually being commercialised that deprive the poor and marginalised peoples from their fundamental rights creating a social discrimination. -BSS, Rajshahi
