Former MP Rana gets bail

Dhaka, June 19 – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday granted permanent bail to former Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-3 Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a case filed over the murder of two Jubo League leaders.
The High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mujibur Rahman granted the bail order yesterday. The order cleared the way for Rana’s release from the jail.
Lawyer Rusho Mustafa moved for Amanur Rahman Khan while Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah stood for the state. The defense lawyer said that there is no legal bar for his client’s release from the jail following Wednesday’s verdict of the High Court.
He said Jubo League activists Shamim and Mamun were beaten to death on August 16, 2012. Mamun’s father Abdul Aziz filed the murder case with a court of Tangail on July 9, 2013, against 13 persons.
Tangail Model Police station recorded the case on September 21, 2013, as per an order of the court.
Charge Sheet of the case was submitted to a Tangail court following the confessional statements made by three other accused, the counsel said.
Earlier on March 6, this year, the apex court granted a six-month bail to former Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana. He was sent to the jail on September 18, 2016. – Special Correspondent
