Four children murder suspect killed by RAB ‘gunfight’

A prime suspect in the recent murder of four children in Habiganj’s Bahubal, auto-rickshaw driver Bachchu Mia has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the RAB.The incident occurred in Deorgachh area of Chunarughat at around 4am on Thursday, said Kazi Moniruzzaman, company commander of RAB-9 based at Srimangal.Police have been claiming that disputes between Panchayets (village councils) had led to the abduction and murders of the four children in Sundrateki village and that Bachchu was involved in it.His auto was also allegedly used in the crime that came to light on Feb 17 when the bodies of the four children were found.Moniruzzaman told bdnews24.com they had detained a man named ‘Shahed’ from Sylhet’s Bishwanath on Wednesday night during a raid.

“A RAB team raided Deorgachch area looking for Bachchu after Shahed told us that Bachchu was planning to flee to India same night. Bachchu and his accomplices opened fire sensing the RAB team’s presence. Two RAB members were injured.Bachchu died when the RAB retaliated,” said the elite force official.His body has been kept at the Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex.RAB has also claimed to have recovered a gun and several bullets from the scene.The four children – Monir Mia, 7, Zakaria Ahmed Shubho, 8, Tajel Mia, 10, and Ismail Hossain, 10, – went missing on Feb 12.Their bodies were found buried under heaps of soil at a dried out swamp in the Sundrateki Village five days later.
