Four killed, 70 injured in Manikganj

At least four people were killed, more than 70 injured and 42 others held during countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal called by 12 like-minded islamist parties on Sunday.Thousands of protestors brought out procession from Shahbagh intersection in the morning protesting the daylong hartal.
Supporters of ruling Awami League and its allies also brought out anti-hartal processions in different cities and towns.
In Manikganj: At least four people were killed and 50 others received bullet injuries as hartal supporters locked in a clash with the police in Singair upazila around 11am.
Over 70 people were injured in clahs with cops in Manikganj and Cox’s Bazar during hartal hours.
Three picketers were held from Mymensingh, five from Netrokona, four from Jessore, two from Jhenidah, one from Bogra, five from Meherpur, one from Munshiganj, nine from Gazipur, one from Gopalganj, three from Comilla, one from Moulvibazar, five from Chandpur and two picketers were detained from Sunamganj.
In Comilla: police held two picketers in front of Didar Market in Daulatpur while a Shibir activist was held from Miabazar under Chauddagram upazila in the morning.
In Moulvibazar: Three people were held while they gathered to bring outprocession supporting the hartal and picket in Court road area at around 8am.
In Bhola: police held three Jamaat-Shibir activists from Manpura and Charfashion upazilas suspecting of planning subversive activities in the early hours of the day.
In Chandpur: Three people were injured in a chase and counter chase between the picketers and police at Puranbazar area at about 7am.
Meanwhile, Chandpur Police Super Ameer Jaffar told banglanews, “Police held five people from different spots in the district to forestall subversive acts.”
In Khulna: At least eight people were injured in a clash between Jamaat-Shibir men and Chhatra League during the hartal at about 11:30am.
Gazipur: Police held nine hartal supporters from Tongi, Joydebpur, Shreepur and Kapasia at 9am.
In Cox’s Bazar: At least eight people were injured in a BNP-Jamaat-Awami League clash at Pekua upazila of the district on Sunday.
Twelve Islamist parties led by Khelafat Andolon called the hartal protesting police and ruling party men attack on their activists during their Friday’s protest rally at different parts of the country.
Main opposition BNP and Jamaat extended their support to the countrywide shutdown. .(Source.banglanews24.com)
