At least four people were killed and over 50 injured in fresh clashes between Jamaat-Shibir activists and law enforcers in Chittagong and Nilphamari district on Saturday.Three people were killed and 10 others injured in a clash between Jamaat-Shibir activists and policemen at Satkania upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 28, Shahidul Islam, 23 and Osman Gani.
Additional Police Super of Chittagong (South) M Iltutmish confirmed the death to banglanews.
According to locals, the clash ensued at 10:30am when law enforcers tried to remove the barricade set up by Jamaat-Shibir near Hashmoter Dokan on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway, leaving three persons dead and over 10 bullet-injured.
Four of injured were admitted to a local hospital at Keranihat, they added.
In Niphamari, Jamaat-Shibir activists locked into clashes with police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in Jaldhaka and Dimla of the district in the afternoon, leaving one dead on the spot and over 40 people injured.
Violating Section 144, Jamaat-Shibir men vandalised shops and vehicles in the areas. Later police fired rubber bullets and tear shells to bring the situation under control.
