Fugitive convict held in Faridpur

Police arrested a fugitive murder convict from the district town on Tuesday morning.
The arrested was identified as Taher Mohammad Murtaza Ehsan alias Apollo Biswas, 38, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the journalist Goutam Das, Faridpur bureau chief Daily Shamkal, killing case.
Acting on secret information, a team of Kotwali Police Station conducted a drive at Bandhabpalli in Alipur in the morning and arrested Apollo, said sub-inspector Mohammad Nasiruddin.
On June 27, a Speedy Trial Tribunal of Dhaka convicted nine people of killing Goutam Das and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
Apollo went into hiding securing bail from the High Court after the murder.
Goutam Das was strangulated to death by the convicts at his bureau office on Mujib Road in the town on November 17, 2005. – UNB
