Ganajagaran strike in Narayanganj today

Sammilita Sangskritik Jote’s Narayanganj unit has called a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Narayanganj for Saturday in protest at the murder of Tanvir Mohammad Twaki, 17, son of local ‘Ganajagaran Mancha’ organiser and cultural activist Rafiur Rabbi.Jote President Pradip Ghosh Babu on Friday noon announced the strike hours after Tanvir’s body was recovered from a canal of the Shitalakkhya River.
Two days after he went missing, Tanvir’s body was found on the canal at the town’s Charargop at around 10:45am.
Activists of Samillita Sangskritik Jote took out a protest procession at Chashara demanding measures to arrest the killers and bring them to justice.
The procession dispersed in front of Tanvir’s residence at the Old Court Road residence in the city’s Shayesta Khan Road. Babu made the call for the Saturday shutdown in Narayanganj from there.
He said, “Hartal will be observed in Narayanganj from 6am-6pm on Saturday in protest at Tanvir’s murder.”
Babu also urged all pro-Liberation War forces to support and observe the strike and demanded fair investigation and justice for the murder.
President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh’s local unit Hafizul Islam said that CPB, Bangladesh Workers Party and Ganasanghati Andolan already lent their support to the strike call.
Twaki took O-Level examinations this year from ABC International School. His results were announced on Thursday where he passed with flying colours.
Superintendent of Narayanganj Police Syed Nurul Islam said Twaki had injury marks in his right eye, his face and on the neck which suggest that he was gagged to death.
Twaki’s father Rabbi said his son went out of the house around 4:30pm on Wednesday. “He did not return after that.”
He informed the RAB and police after Twaki had gone missing.
Narayanganj CPB President Hafizul Islam said that Rabbi himself had identified the body after locals found noticed it in the canal adjacent to the river.
Later, the body was sent to the Narayanganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Narayanganj Ganajagaran Mancha organiser Rabbi is also a leading activist of local citizen movements.
