Garments training solve unemployment stressed

Speakers in a function here on Monday stressed the need for conducting training on garments among the unemployed youths to solve their unemployment problems to help build a poverty and hunger free country.

“In this context, the educated and half educated youths including young women of the society should come forward with the mentality to receive the trainings cordially and successfully to engage in income generating activities to change their lots economically and living standard socially,” they said.

They made the comments while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony for the trainees who received 22-day training on oven machine operating at the training centre of a non-government organisation Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) at Nashratpur under Sadar upazila in the district.

GUK and South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) jointly organised the function under the project of Reducing Extreme Poverty through Skilled Training for Industry Job Placement. The Case of RMG in Bangladesh funded by DFID of UK, IZA-GLM of Germany, PFE of South Africa, and IDRC of Canada.

Sadar UNO M. Mamunur Rashid addressed the function as the chief guest and Shaghata UNO Abdul Awal was present as a guest of honor while director of GUK Anjuman Nahid Chowdhury was the moderator.

Sadar UNO Mamunur Rashid appreciated the GUK and the SANEM for arranging such the training programme for the unemployed youths of the district in a bid to help them turn into skilled manpower and solve their unemployment problems.

GUK coordinator Mohirul Islam Tushar, programme managers Asadul Islam, Kishore Kumar and Aftab Hossain and project manager Al Faruque Murad and the journalists of print and electronic media including national news agency were present on the occasion.

Executive chief of GUK Abdus Salam said an initiative had been taken to conduct training on trades for the 1,600 unemployed youths including young girls of the district under the project so they could work at different garments of the country with attractive salaries for self reliance.

Earlier, 1,160 unemployed youths of Sadar upazila were provided jobs at different garments in Dhaka after imparting them need base training on machine operating under another project ‘Reducing Extreme Poor by Skills Development on Garments’ with the financial and technical support of Shire/EEP in partnership with GoB and UK’s DFID, he also said. -BSS, Gaibandha
