Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) has called upon the brick kiln owners for using modern technologies in producing bricks to save the environment and climate from pollution and degradation.
“The brick kilns, which are polluting the environment and causing threat to the public health, ecology and bio-diversity and damaging crops, shall remain shut down until owners of those ensure use of the latest and modern technologies,” he added.
The RCC Mayor said this while visiting the Aman paddy fields, damaged as a result of not using modern technology by owner of the nearby brick kiln in Khotkhotia Chobbish Hazari area under Ward no-5 in RCC area here Monday afternoon.
Jhantu also committed to provide compensations to the affected farmers to recoup the losses they incurred following damage of their Aman crop on over 25 acres of land in the surrounding areas of a brick kiln there.
The RCC Mayor ordered to shut down the nearby brick kiln until its owner adopts the modern and latest technologies in producing bricks ensuring safety and security to the environment, climatic condition, ecology and bio-diversity there.
Terming brick kiln owners as development partners, he asked them for establishing brick kilns using modern technologies before production of bricks to save the country, its environment, crops, cultivable lands and population.
RCC Councilors Mokhlesur Rahman Taru and Fazlul Haque, former union parishad chairman Mohubar Rahman, social workers Alhaj Abdul Manna, Matlubar Rahman, owner of Joy Auto Bricks Limited Abul Basher Chand, affected farmers and locale elite were present. –BSS, Rangpur
