Gayle sets new record of 40 sixes in World Cup

Dhaka- West Indies batsman Chris Gayle started his final World Cup campaign with a fifty on Friday and set a new record of most number of sixes in ICC World Cup events.
He has smashed 40 sixes so far.Among others in the list, AB de Villiers of South Africa is in the second position with 37 sixes, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is in the third position with 31 sixes, Brendon McCullum of New Zealand is in the fourth position with 29 sixes and former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs is in fifth position with 28 sixes.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya are sharing the sixth slot with 27 sixes each.
Chris Gayle also touched 19,000-run milestone in international cricket and become the third highest scorer of West Indies after Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
He scored total of 19,042 runs from 451 matches in the all three formats (Test, ODI, T20) of international cricket.
In Friday’s match against Pakistan, Gayle scored his 52nd half century in 34 balls with three sixes and six fours.
Earlier, Gayle recorded the most sixes hitting the 506 sixes in 447th match in the all three formats (Test, ODI, T20) of international cricket.
He broke Shahid Afridi’s record of 476 sixes in 524 international matches.UNB
