Gazipur garment boiler blast toll rises to 10

Dhaka – The body of aanother garment worker was recovered from the debris of Multi-Fabs Ltd in Nayarapara area on Tuesday morning, raising the death toll from the incident to 10.Firefighters pulled out the body around 9:30am, Akhtaruzzaman, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence said.
The firefighters were still searching for victims under the debris till filing of the report around 11:00 am.
Earlier, a worker who suffered injuries in a boiler explosion at a readymade garment (RMG) factory in Gazipur city’s Nayarapara area on Monday evening died at night in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
At least eight people were killed and around 50 injured as a boiler exploded at the factory on Monday evening.
The injured were admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where one of the injured succumbed to his injuries at night raising the death toll from the incident to nine, sources at the DMCH said.
The deceased worker could not be identified yet.
The managements of Multi-Fabs Ltd, where the boiler exploded, closed the factory for an indefinite period, said workers of the factory.
Besides, 10 garments factories of the area closed their factories for Tuesday (today) following the incident.
The district administration has formed an eight-member investigation committee to probe the incident.
