Global Pharma meets workers’ demands, reopens

The factory workers of Global Capsules Limited at Rupatali area of the
city have withdrawn  their  strike and  backed to work on Monday noon
after five-day as owners agreed to meet 5 out of 9 point demands about
increase of service benefits.On Monday morning meeting between a 10-member team of workers
including Mintu, Hafiz, Shahadat,Ripon, Khorshed , a 4-member team of
company officials led by Saidur Rahman of Opsonin group and Tamal,
Zafarullah, Shafikul Islam of Global Capsul head office, Sub Inspector
Mohiuddin, on behalf of the law enforcing agencies.
After hours long discussion the factory management and owners side
agree to meet 5 demands of increasing monthly tiffin allowances from
Tk. 600 to 900, sanctioning  loan against salary, giving show cause
notice before dismissals, four-months salary in case of sickness and
double salary for working on holidays, told factory, workers and
police sources.
Mentionable workers demanding appointment letter and job permanency,
increasing tiffin allowance from Tk.20 per-day to Tk 40 per-day,   Tk.
1,000 yearly increment of monthly salary, counting double salary for
working on holidays and hartal-days, payment of yearly bonus
equivalent to one-month salary, bearing costing by the company in case
of death and injury of any worker, stopping dismissals of workers
without notice and follow rules of labour act, started strike from
Wednesday.
The GCL factory, a subsidiary of Opsonin Group, one of the leading
pharmaceutical and chemical companies in the country, has more than
800 permanent and temporary workers receiving salaries only from Tk
2000 to Tk. 3000 per head per month.
