College admission begins May 18

The process for admission to colleges for the 2013-2014 academic session will begin across the country on May 18.The filling up of admission forms will continue till June 6. The admission seekers have to send SMS from Teletalk mobile phone to a certain number to apply for admission.
The Education Ministry has finalised the admission policy for Class-XI students under the academic session.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid came up with the information while talking to journalists after a meeting with the principals of all colleges at his office here on Tuesday.
The list of the eligible candidates will be published on June 16 and the classes will begin on July 1, he said.
Like the previous year, there will be no admission test as the students will be enrolled on the basis of their SSC results.
The minister said 90 percent seats will be opened for all candidates in the colleges in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Rangpur divisional headquarters and in district towns.
Three percent of the rest seats will be reserved for the students coming from outside the seven divisional headquarters and the district towns while 5 percent will be reserved for the children of freedom fighters and 2 percent for children of teachers or managing committee members or staff of the Education Ministry and its relevant offices.
Students will get priority to get admitted to the institutions from where they passed the SSC exams.
Nahid said there will be no accommodation crisis this year. Instead, over 1 lakh seats will remain vacant in all the institutions though there is a heavy admission pressure in quality institutions.
The minister said the admission fees will be collected through receipts approved by the government.
He warned the college authorities not to take fees more than what the government has fixed, saying action will be taken against the institutions that will be found guilty of such irregularity. UNB
