Dhaka – Grand Master (GM) Enamul Hossain Razib and Woman International Master (WIM) Rani Hamid won their matches on the first round of the 1st SAARC Chess Championships (Open & Women’s), at New Sindhurful Hall of FARS Hotel & Resorts in the capital on Monday.
GM Razib beat CM Krishna Thapa of Nepal in their match of the open section while WIM Rani Hamid beat Aeon Sarke in their match of the women’s section.
In the day’s other matches of open section: IM Prantik Roy of India beat Lamahewa of Sir Lanka, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman beat Mukitul Islam Ripon, FM Mohammed Abdul Malek beat Khandokar Nazre Mowla, FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman beat Mezanur Rahman, Sonkalan Bharati of India beat Md Asadujjaman, CM Subrota Biswas beat Md Hasan, CM Sohel Chowdhury beat Md Sarwar Alam, Uten beat Nafim Al Karim, Tahsin Tajwar Zia beat Abhijit Barua, CM Jamal Uddin beat Bablu Sheikh, CM Chanchal Kumer Ghosh beat Hamidul Haque, Javed Al azad beat Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, CM Manon Reja Neer beat Abul Kashem Al Sahhid, Md Nsim Hossain Bhuiyan drew with FM Mohammad Javed, Anata Choudhury drew with Alekhya Mukhopadhyay of India and CM Mahtabuddin Ahmed drew with Sankalan Shah of India.
In the women’s section: WCM Samiha Sharmin Simmi beat Anowara Khatun, WFM Zakia Sultana beat Nushrat Zahan Nafisa, Dhahampriya of Sri Lanka beat Sharmin Khan, Nusrat Jahan Alo beat Warsia Khushbu, Ahmed Walijah beat Arisha Hossain Tuba and WCM Jannatul Ferdous beat Tasmin Sultana.
The 2nd round matches will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 pm at same venue.
President of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) and Director General of RAB Forces Benzair Ahmed, BPM (BAR) inaugurated the event as the chief guest on the day while Adviser of FIDE (World Chess Federation) Berik Balgabaev attended the event as special guest.
A total of 87 players including two Grand Masters and six International Masters from Afghanistan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh are taking part in the open section while some 22 women players including two International Masters from India, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are taking part in the women’s section of the regional meet.UNB
