BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday alleged that the current regime has annihilated democracy in the country snatching people’s all democratic and basic rights.
“Now the situation has turned so worse that people cannot express their opinions. All the basic and human rights have been snatched making democracy at stake,” he said.The BNP leader was addressing a meeting at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Nurul Huda Smrity Sangsad in memory of late politician Nurul Huda Mirza marking his third death anniversary.
Fakhrul said the country’s people are passing a hard time due to the misrule unleashed by the current regime. “The country’s independence and sovereignty is not safe in its hands. At his tough time of the country, rarely-born person like Nurul Huda Mirza is badly needed.”
He urged the youth to follow the dedicated and patriot politician like Nurul Huda to come forward to save the country and its people from the misrule.
Chaired by BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, the meeting was addressed, among others, by historian and columnist Badruddin Omar, Prof Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, left leader Haider Akbar Khan Rono, DU Prof Mahbub Ullah and Jatiya Press Club president Kamaluddin Sabuj. – UNB
