Govt desperate to hush up N’ganj 7 murders: BNP

BNP leader Hannan Shah on Thursday alleged the government is desperately trying to hush up the seven-murder incident here as it has a direct link with the killings. “The involvement of Rab in the gruesome killings has proved the government is directly involved in it. Now they (govt) are trying to hide the incident but we won’t let them do it,” he said. The BNP standing committee member was talking to reporters while visiting the Siddhirganj house of lawyer Chandan Sarker who along with six others was killed after abduction here recently. In the wake of the sensational seven murders in the district, a BNP delegation, led by Hannan Shah, went to Narayanganj to console the family members of the victims and visit Khaleda’s planned rally venue. The BNP delegation included BNP vice chairman Selima Rahman, joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, organising secretary Fazlul Haq Milon and BNP student affairs secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee. Hannan Shah questioned the government’s intention of sending three armed force members, reportedly involved in the murders, on retirement without any investigation. “They (govt) did it to save them and fool people.” He demanded the government immediately arrest all those, including the Rab officials, involved in the brutal killings. The BNP policymaking body member also said the government has completely failed to ensure the security of public life and property. Chandan’s family members burst into tears as the BNP delegation stepped into their house around 11am. They told the BNP leaders that Chandan could have been saved unhurt had the administration taken prompt action after his abduction. The BNP leaders consoled Chandan’s family members and assured them of providing all necessary supports in ensuring justice. Later, the delegation went to the house of another victim, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, and talked to the bereaved family members. They also visited Alauddin Khan Stadium near Nitaiganj Bus Stand where Khaleda is scheduled to address a rally on May 14. Though Narayanganj city mayor Selina Hayat Ivy denied them permission, Hannan Shah hoped she will finally allow them to hold the rally. Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates, driver, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were killed three days after their abduction recently. Three Rab officials have been dismissed for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of the seven people. – UNB
