Govt press note bundle of lies: Fakhrul

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday described the government press note on the Mar 11 violence outside the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters as ‘bundle of lies’.“No political party keeps explosives inside its party office. What police did…their rampage inside the BNP headquarters…Bangladesh saw it all on television. So no one will believe the government press note…it’s a bundle of lies,” he said.
He claimed the recovery of explosives by police at the BNP’s central party office was ‘stage-managed’.
“The government press note claimed the explosions took place right after the strike was announced. This is completely false,” he said.
“I gave the last speech at the rally… I saw the first explosions near Scout Building where police were standing. Then police foiled our rally…but the press note said blasts took place after the strike was announced. All lies…”
Mirza Fakhrul was speaking at a human chain programme in Dhaka on the National Press Club premises.
On Mar 11, police raided the BNP headquarters hours after the explosions disrupted a rally of the 18-Party Alliance rally in the area. More than 150 activists including at least seven top BNP leaders were arrested following the raid.
Police said they found 10 crude bombs in the BNP office.
The press note was aimed at explaining the context of the police raid on the BNP office, which blamed party leaders for fomenting chaos from the headquarters.
