Govt won’t cancel GP license: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday categorically said the government would not cancel the licence of the Grameenphone, a leading mobile-phone operator in the country.“The government has no plan to cancel its license but we are trying to find a solution for GP for overcoming current crisis. The government will work with government of Norway if needed,” he said.
The finance minister came up with the observation while talking to journalists at his ministry in the city.
The ruling Awami League lawmaker said, “The Grameen Commission recommended canceling license of the Grameenphone on some ground.”
He added, “The commission found that there is no relation between Grameenphone and Grameen Bank though it was said earlier that five lakh women are owner of the mobile-phone operator.”
Muhith said, “But Grameenphone is own property of Dr Mohammad Yunus and it has no relation with Grameen Bank. So, the government has no plan to cancel the license rather it got another 15-year license nod recently.” banglanews24.com
