A man was shot to death by robbers at a house where marriage ceremony of his younger brother was being held at Kagojikhola village in Naikhangchhari upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ahmmed Safa, 60, elder brother of Advocate Ibrahim, the bridegroom.
Police said a gang of armed robbers, numbering 22 to 23, stormed the house of Nurul Amin, where the marriage ceremony was being held at about 12:30 am and looted valuables including gold ornaments, Tk one lakh cash and gifts after keeping the house inmates hostage at gunpoint.When local people tried to resist the robbers, a scuffle took place between them.At one stage, the robbers opened fire on them, leaving Ahmmed Shafa dead on the spot.Ten people were also injured during the incident.They were taken to a local hospital.Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Naikhangchhari Police Station, said the robbers entered the house when a police team deployed there left the place at about 11:30 pm.Debdash Bhattacharya, superintendent of police of the district, visited the spot. –UNB, Bandarban
