Gulshan attackers’ DNA samples handed over to FBI

Dhaka – The DNA samples of ‘six’ Gulshan attackers were handed over to the representative of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) early Friday.
Deputy Commissioner (media) of DB Masudur Rahman said the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) handed over the hair and blood samples to FBI for laboratory test around 1 am.

Earlier, on July 21, blood and hair samples were collected from the bodies of the six Gulshan attackers to examine whether they took any stimulant or drug before storming the Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1.
A team of the Forensic Medicine Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), led by its assistant professor Sohel Mahmud, collected the samples at the Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where the bodies have been kept, on Wednesday.
Five militants—Meer Samih Mobassher, Rohan Ibn Imtiaz, Nibras Islam, Khairul Islam Payel and Shafiqul Islam Uzzal—and their ‘associate’ Md Saiful Islam Choukidar, a chef of the Holey Artisan Bakery of Gulshan, were killed in a commando operation at the restaurant on July 2 following a 12- hour hostage standoff.
Earlier, the CTTC unit sought permission from a Dhaka court to collect the samples.
