A class-VII girl who was denied education at her school after falling victim to rape in Bahubal upazila has finally been able to sit for the terminal examination at the intervention of the local administration.Besides, upazila nirbahi officer Md Saiful Islam on Sunday issued a show-cause notice on Shahjalal High School headmaster Ayub Ali to explain in four days the action taken against the girl.
The UNO said the headmaster forbade the girl to go to school after she fell prey to gang rape on July 19. Since then, she had been pursuing her study at home.
As the examination was approaching, her father went to the school and requested the headmaster to allow her to appear at the examination.
However, Ayub Ali informed him that the managing committee decided to expel her from the school.
The matter came to the notice of the administration following reports published in local newspapers.
The girl sat for Islamic Studies examination on Sunday after the interference of the UNO.
Contacted, the headmaster said they would take steps so that the girl can appear at the examination for remaining subjects.
