The district unit of BNP enforced a half-day hartal in the district on Sunday protesting an attack on detained Habiganj municipality mayor (suspended) GK Gaus in jail.
Vehicular movement on the streets of the district town was suspended due to the general strike from 6am to 12pm.Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate organisations brought out several processions at different points in the town.
Earlier on Saturday morning, GK Gaus, an accused in former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case, came under an attack inside Habiganj Jail.
Sources at Habiganj Jail said Gaus was beaten with an iron rod by another jail inmate.
Later, Gaus was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the capital. – Unb
