President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh yesterday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and chairman of Jatiya Party HM Ershad would be identified to the nation as “villain.”
“Sheikh Hasina and Ershad will be treated as villain in the history as they destroyed democracy by assuming office through January 5 election,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club.
The former President said he does not know whether any election like January 5 that had boycotted by BNP-led alliance was held in any country in the world.“More than 50 per cent seats had been filled uncontested. Eight to 10 per cent vote was cast even that was given forcibly,” he said.
Addressing the meeting, BNP leader Amanullah Aman called upon the BDB leader to take to the street taking guidance from former premier Khaleda Zia to unseat the government.
The Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) organised the meeting to mark the 24th martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, who sacrificed his life during the anti-autocratic movement in nineties.
Dr B Chowdhory said the motto of assuming office through election is to take the responsibility of the people and protect their rights.
“It is not power for showing power. Whatever the government is doing is not democracy or politics rather they are only showing power,” he said.
Terming Ershad the most corrupt and autocrat in the history, he said the ruling Awami League had formed alliance taking Ershad with them by forgetting his heinous history.
He also criticised Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haq Inu for maintaining political intimacy with Ershad.
The BDB leader warned that anyone can go to power through illegal means but cannot cling to power for long. “The day is not so far away,” he added.
Presided over by Dr AKM Azizul Haque, president of the organisation, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Prof Dr MA Mazed, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and Habibur Rahman Habib.
The DAB leader will place wrath at the mazar of Milon at Dhaka Medical College premises at 7:00am Thursday. – Staff Reporter
