Dhaka – The High Court (HC) Division of the Supreme Court Wednesday adjourned stayed for two months the holding of the election of the country’s top trade body the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).A HC bench comprising Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order after hearing on a writ petition that claimed that the businessman nominated from Mymensingh Division for the directorship was not included in the voter list.
The election was scheduled to be held on May 14. Meanwhile, FBCCI announced the schedule for the polls on February 14. Earlier, on February 6, Mymensingh Chamber President Aminul Haque filed a petition with the apex court seeking an order for their chamber’s inclusion.
Aminul Huq, President of the Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industries, filed the writ petition saying that there are anomalies in the voter list as his name was not included in the list, said Barrister Boddroddozza Badal, the petitioner’s lawyer.
Mymensingh was made a division in 2015 and the local chamber of commerce and industries pleaded to the FBCCI in 2016 for its inclusion, but the process has not been forwarded in the last one year Barrister Badal, added while talking to newsmen. – Special Correspondent
