HC asks Khoka’s son, daughter to surrender

The High Court on Thursday asked the son and daughter of former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) and BNP leader Sadek Hossain Khoka to surrender before the judicial court within four weeks in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Comission.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order rejection two petitions filed for bail in advance.Barrister Azmalul Hossain stood for the petitioners while Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the ACC and deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said the HC asked Khoka’s son Ishraque Hossain and his daughter Sarika Sadeque to surrender before the court in the case filed for not submitting their wealth statements.

ShamsulAlam, assistant director of ACC, filed two separate cases with Ramna Police Station on August 29 and 30 in 2010.According to the case statement, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)in the primary inquiries about the wealth of Ishraque Hossain and Sarika Sadeque found that they acquired wealth worth about Tk 5 crore beyond known source of income.

On September 1, 2008, it also asked them to submit their wealth statements within seven days which they failed to submit. According to the inquiries, Ishrak Hossain has illegal wealth worth about Tk 3 crore while Sarika possesses unearned wealth worth about Tk 2 crore.
