HC asks lower court to dispose of Khaleda’s bail plea

Dhaka, Jan 23 – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the lower court concerned to dispose of by February 4 the bail petition filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Cumilla arson attack case that lodged in 2015.
A High Court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order on Wednesday after hearing the petition.
Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Kayser Kamal stood for the BNP chief in the court.
Earlier on January 20, Barrister Kayser Kamal on behalf of Begum Khaleda Zia filed the petition with the High Court.
Meanwhile, the Cumilla court deferred the hearing on the bail petition four times.
On January 16, Cumilla’s additional district and sessions judge Md Ali Akbar deferred the hearing on charge framing and bail petition of BNP chief. It also fixed February 4 for hearing the petition.
Eight people were killed and at least 20 others injured in a petrol bomb attack on a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram upazila on February 3, 2015 during the BNP-led alliance’s movement.
Two cases were filed against Khaleda Zia in this connection. – Special Correspondent
