Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a local leader of
Hefajatfrom the local bus stand area on Monday.The arrested was identified as Zakaria Hossain, publicity secretary of
district unit Hefajat.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Safiqul Islam said a
team of DB police raided the area at noon and arrested Zakaria.
He was held apprehending that he might be involved in sabotage during
the Tuesday’s hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami, said the OC.
A case was filed against him under the Special Power Act.
Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from near Kuthibari
in Sadar upazila on charge of picketing during the hartal hours on
Tuesday.
The arrested was identified as Hakikul Islam, Sadar upazila unit
Nayeb-e-Ameer of the party.
Officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Abdur Rashid
Sarkar said Hakikul was arrested at about 9am while he along with
others was engaged in picketing in the area.
Jamaat enforced the dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal protesting the
arrest of its central leader AKM Yusuf on charges of crimes against
humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
