9 girls return after 18 months in Indian jail

Nine Bangladeshi girls on Monday returned home from India after
languishing in a jail in the country for one and a half years.Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to the Bangladeshi
authorities through the Benapole check-post in the afternoon.
The nine girls were identified as Sonia, 16, Priya, 18, Sagorika, 17,
Shahnaj, 19, Parvin, 20, Shanu, 17, Janu, 198, Sabina Yeasmin, 19, and
Nasrin, 18. They all hailed from different places of Jessore and
Faridpur districts.
Ali Ahmed Masud, officer-in-charge of Benapole check-post immigration
police, said human traffickers had sent the girls to India through
Putkhali border illegally with a false assurance of helping them find
lucrative jobs there one and an half years ago.
Later, they were sent to a Mumbai jail after Indian police arrested
them from Mumbai Rail Station area.
Frequent contacts between the Home Ministries of India and Bangladesh
facilitated their return to Bangladesh, said the sources.
