Holcim fined for discharging cement waste into Poshur River

Dhaka – A mobile court Tuesday fined Tk 1.5 lakh to Holcim cement factory in Mongla Port for illegally disposing waste from their factory into the Poshur river and for not printing the maximum retail price in the cement bags.Executive Magistrate of Bagerhat District Administration, Nazim Uddin fined the factory during a sudden inspection.
Nazim Uddin said that he went on a visit to the cement factory of Holcim near Poshur River. There he found that the factory was disposing fly-ash into the river.
Besides, violating the Consumer Right Protection Act, the cement bags of the factory didn’t mention the maximum retail price in the bags.
Because of those irregularities, the magistrate fined the factory under the Consumer Right Protection Act and Mongla Port Ordinance 1976. – News Desk
