Holy month of fasting Ramadan begins

Dhaka, May 6 – The Holy Ramadan, the Islami month of self-restraint for self-purification through fasting and abstinence, begann in Bangladesh on Tuesday as the new crescent moon was sighted on Monday.
Lailatul Qadr, the night of divine blessing and benediction, will be observed on the night of June 1.
The National Moon Sighting Committee took the decision at a meeting held at Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office with State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Md Abdullah in the chair.
Muslims have started to fast from dawn to dusk. The fasting will continue althrough the month of restraint and austerity.
During the holy month, all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions will follow new office timing as announced by the government.
All these offices will remain open from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm with a 15-minute Zohr prayer break from 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm during the month.
The month ends heralding the Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims. The Eid festival spurs shopping for new clothes of people of all ages and business thrives by launching attractive fashion designs children’s wear, women’s garment, pajama and Punjabi for men.
The month is also marked by festive iftar (breakfast) after sun-set that also marks the end of fasting every day. – UNB
