Dhaka – A housewife tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on herself at Sauthkhali village in Sharankhola upazila on Saturday morning.The victim is Kamala Begum alias Nuri, 20, wife of Motaleb Hawladar of Bakultala village of the upazila and daughter of Paschim Rajapur village of the same upazila.Md Alamin Khalifa, victim’s brother, told agency that Kamala had a love affair with Motaleb. Later they got married around one and half years back.But, they did not know that Motaleb have another wife and a son, he said.Motaleb used to torture Nuri for dowry. They gave them Tk 25,000 a few days back. But, he demanded more Tk 10 lakh from them. She could not tolerate it and tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on herself at 10am, said victim’s brother.On information, police rescued the housewife and sent her to upazila health complex, from where she was later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated, said Md Kabirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sharankhola Police Station.Nuri is fighting for her life with almost 60 percent burns on her body, said Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ashim Kumar Samaddar of Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex.UNB news agency
