A housewife was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband at Habashpur village in Bagha upazila on Thursday midnight.
The deceased was identified as Rahida Begum, 45, wife of Abdul Latif, 50, of the village. Victim’s younger brother Atiqur Rahman said Rahida was married off to Latif who is a drug addict 20 years back. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Rukhsana, 18, and a son, Mithun Ali, 10.
However, their marriage was not always a happy one as they used to have quarrel over Hanif’s taking drugs.
The matter turned serious recently with Latif falling sick due to using excessive drugs. Latif engaged in an altercation with Rahida over the issue on Thursday night and at one stage, he stabbed her indiscriminately, leaving her dead on the spot.
Officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station Aminur Rahman said they recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Latif sustained injuries as a human-hauler crashed into him while going into hiding after the incident. Later, police arrested him and took him to Bagha Upazila Health Complex under their custody. -UNB, Rajshahi
