Hunger strike staged for Sylhet-London direct flight

A token hunger strike was observed in Sylhet on Monday demanding
immediate resumption of direct flights of the national flag carrier
Biman Bangladesh Airlines between Sylhet and London.
Sylhet Kalyan Sangstha organised the hunger strike in front of the
Central Shaheed Minar at Chowhatta in the city.
The organisation leaders at the hunger strike blamed the authorities
for not resuming the Sylhet-London flights despite assurances given by
the government on several occasions.
They also threatened tougher agitations if the flights were not
resumed immediately.
Sylhet Kalyan Sangstha president Elsanul Haque Taher, general
secretary Azizur Rahman Aziz, Hasan Talukdar, Rasheduzzaman, Zahangir
Alam, Shah Alam and Yusuf Ali, among others, addressed the programme.
Biman suspended its Sylhet-London flight in December 2011 on pretext
of excessive fog and since then the flight remained stopped. -Our
