Lohagara thana police arrested six bird hunters and seized 280 slaughtered ‘shalik’ (a small yellow breasted singing country bird) from Gopinathpur village in the early hours of Sunday.The arrested persons were identified as Ramzan, 27, Zahir, 23, Nayan Sheikh, 20, Shukur Mondal, 25, Musa, 18 and Ainal, 17 of Gopinathpur village under Lohagara upazila of the district.Police sources said, the birds were hunted from Ghaga area of the upazila with a view to eating them. Acting on a tip off, police held the hunters and seized the birds in a drive at 3 am on Sunday.OC (investigation) of Lohagara thana Hafiz Iqbal said, bird hunting is an offence.
