Husband held captive; wife gang-raped in Netrakona eatery

Dhaka, Aug 10 (UNB) – A housewife has reportedly been gang-raped confining her husband to an eatery in Sadar upazila.

Police arrested four accused on Saturday over the incident after the victim filed a case with Sadar Model Police Station.

The arrestees are Saidul Islam, 30, Rezaul Karim Pavel, 28, Jaman Bashar, 27, of Rajendrapur area, and Mahfuzur Rahman, manager of Sarinda Fast Food.

Officer-in-charge of the police station M Tajul Islam said the victim along her husband boarded a bus in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh on Friday night for going to her relative’s house in Kalmakanda of Netrakona.

She went to a toilet behind Sarinda Fast Food at Rajendrapur around 7:30pm to respond to the call of nature.

A youth named Jihan raped her inside the toilet, he said.

Later, Samrat, Bashar, Russel, Pavel and Saidul raped the housewife from 8pm to midnight after keeping her husband confined to a room of the restaurant.

They also took away their mobile phones and Tk 10,000 in cash before releasing them around 1am on Saturday.

The victim approached the police station around 2am and narrated the incident.

The OC said they sent the victim to Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital for medical test. “We’ve arrested four people, including the hotel manager, following information provided by the housewife,” he said.
