Int’l Business Forum de leaves for US

A delegation of the International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB) on Thursday departs the country for United States on a three-week visit, in a bid to explore new areas of businesses. The 10-member delegation will also campaign for the continuation of the GSP (Generalised System of Preferences) facility to Bangladeshi products in the US market, IBFB leaders told a press briefing at its office.
Head of the IBFB delegation and its founding president Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury told reporters that the main aim of the visit is to bring into attention of the US buyers the untapped potential of various industries in Bangladesh that include the shoe-manufacturing and the information technology (IT).
As it’s the first delegation to visit the US after the Rana Plaza Collapse that created a serious image crisis for the country’s readymade garment (RMG) sector, it’s also in our agenda to try to regain the confidence of the parties concerned in the US, he added.
“Earlier on May 25, IBFB made a courtesy call on the Finance Minister AMA Muhith to apprise him of the visit-plan. There he requested us to raise the point of GSP facility in different forums.
The IBFB delegation is expected to meet Richardson Economic Development, US Department of State, US Department of Commerce, American Chamber of Commerce, Centre for International Private Enterprise, Centre for Strategic and International Studies and Bangladesh Business Partner during the visit to several cities in the US.
